‘DON’T PROVOKE US, WARNS HICHILEMA’ |
|
23 August 2010 Monze UPND president Hakainde Hichilema has disclosed that government has released a fleet of Zambia News and Information services (ZANIS) vehicles to campaign for its expelled Namwala Member of Parliament major Robbie Chizhyuka under the MMD ticket. And Hichilema has warned the ruling MMD not provoke his members and supporters during the Namwala by-election because they will not sit idle and watch.
The MMD has adopted Chizyhuka as their candidate. Chizyhuka is expected to defect to MMD tomorrow at a rally to be addressed by President Banda in Namwala.
In an interview with Monze’s Sky Fm Radio, Hichilema said UPND members who were campaigning for the party were yesterday arrested and detained in police custody in Namwala district.
“Don’t provoke or attack us in the Namwala by-election, I repeat, don’t provoke us in Namwala if you do it, do it at your own peril. This is a democracy we don’t want brutality. The MMD has released a fleet of vehicles which are being used to campaign for Chizhyuka (Major Robbie Chizhyuka) who the MMD intend to float in the coming Namwala by-election. I have the registration numbers for those vehicles, we are watching. Those (vehicles) are taxpayers assets. Our members were arrested yesterday for campaigning for the party because President Banda was expected in the district…as I talk to you now they (UPND members) are in police cells. There is no law that stops people from campaigning when a Head of State is visiting, there is no law that stops them from campaigning, but that’s what happens when the regime is exiting. Chizhyuka has taken money to Namwala which he is using to buy animals to be given to President Banda as gifts,” he said.

KUNDA IS A SHAMELSS LIAR - HICHILEMA |
|
23 August 2010
UNITED Party for National Development (UPND) president Hakainde Hichilema has said Vice president George Kunda must be ashamed for cheating and politicking in Church. He said if late president Levy Mwanawasa was to rise from the dead he would have a hard talk with Kunda for embracing and shielding plunderers who were being prosecuted by the courts of law. And MMD Katuba Member of Parliament (MP) Jonas Shakafuswa said he joined UPND in preference to MMD due to president Frederick Chiluba’s misrule. In an interview Hichilema said he is not surprised that the ugly face of corruption which was almost buried has resurfaced after the death of Mwanawasa. “George Kunda is a slippery person, this is the same George who denounced, condemned and disowned Chiluba when president Mwanawasa embarked on a vigorous anti-corruption fight but after his (Mwanawasa’s) death George turns around and says Chiluba is the MMD’s political consultant. He (Kunda) must be ashamed that he lied and started politicking on the Holy grounds of the Church (Anglican Cathedral of the Holy Cross) where he praised Mwanawasa as a hardworking and meticulous person. If president Mwanawasa was to wake up today he would have a hard talk with George. MMD has failed to carry on with Mwanawasa’s legacy and corruption is back. Am not surprised that things are happening this way, Mwanawasa fought corruption as a lone soldier and I hope the situation doesn’t remain the same. George distanced himself from what his Boss stood for, he must be ashamed for politicking in church,” he said. |
